Vic Mercado- THE Drummer

Its has been for two nights now that I haven't write anything here. Got nothing to sensible to write perhaps, that's why. I still got nothing interesting to write aside from if I will write about Bamboo. But if I would, I'm afraid it would make my blog boring.. Actually, I don't know! Let's see... I been writing about Bamboo's album and song for as quite sometime now... Hopefully, it wouldn't hurt if I write about their hot drummer Vic Mercado, right?

I got no profile of him t
o present you with. I had difficulty searching information about Vic Mercado. for an avid fan- a true believer, this fact is quite disappointing, right? tsk. tsk. tsk.

Playing the drums has always been his language. Vic Mercado learned to play the drums when he was only 12 years old in his hometown Iloilo. Since they did not have a drum set, he was taught without actual drums but merely by singing and tapping the notes on his lap and stomping his feet on the floor. His first gig, only 14 years old and usually after school, was at jazz lounge, filling in for his teacher. That was followed by playing for show bands for a couple of years and at 17, he left the country with his band to play around Asia.

He came back home when he was 21 and decided to settle in Manila where he played at local bars around the metro. He then studied under Mar Dizon, also a Zildjian local artist, then eventually got to play for the band Passage, taking the place of Michael Alba, another Zildjian local artist. After Passage he decided to play in the rock scene with several different local bands.

Now he's with one of the country's top rock bands, Bamboo. In February 2004, they released their first album, As the Music Plays, under the EMI-PolyEast label and the said album is now double platinum. (And the rest, as they say, is history.)

Ain't FEELIN' ALRIGHT

Shit! I'm quite excited of making an entry about buying myself a copy of Bamboo's third album, We Stand Alone Together. But sad to say, I feel really bad right now... I think I'm having a flu and it really irritates me! Geez! I hate being sick! Who on earth would want to be sick anyway?!

I can really relate to parts of Bamboo's version of Feelin' Alright- You feelin' all right,I'm not feelin' too good myself. This is so unfair! This night should be at least an ordinary night for me. But I feel sick! My throat hurts and I even have difficulty coughing and some kind of watery element starts dripping from my nose... I am indeed experiencing all the symptoms of Flu and I know this isn't the worst... I just hope I'll get better by Monday.

By the way, you might be curious about the complete lyrics of Feelin' Alright- the song which is included in Bamboo's third album. Surprisingly, I was still able to look for it. It's an original song by Dave Mason.

Feelin'Alright
Bamboo

Seems I got to have a change of scene
Every night I have the strangest dream
Imprisoned by the way it could have been
Left you on my own or so it seemed
I got to leave before I start to scream
But someone locked the door and took the keys

{Refrain}
You feelin' all right, oh oh
I'm not feelin' too good myself, oh oh
You feelin' all right, oh oh
I'm not feelin' too good myself, oh oh

Boy, you sure took me for one big ride
And even now I sit and I wonder why
Then when I think of you, I start myself to cry
Just can't waste my time, I must get by
Gotta stop believin' in all your lies
'Cause there's too much to do before I die

{Refrain}

Feelin' all right
Ooh, don't you get too lost, in all I say
In a better time, you know I really felt that way
But that was then and now you know it's today
I can't get safe, so I guess I'm here to stay
'Til someone comes along and takes my place
With a different name, and a different face

{Refrain, repeat to fade}

Bamboo's New Website

The 23rd of February is the album launch of the hottest rock band of the country- Bamboo. The songs of the band's 3rd album entitled We Stand Alone Together are all revivals like:
To further promote this Bamboo's Official Website was given a new look! It's more simple and has less clutter. It is also easy to navigate which is very favorable to its users. Simply put, I like it! A lot... I didn't say that I the previous one wasn't really great. Actually, it was! Both were great! What I don't like with the previous site was the clutter. If you're the user and you stumble upon the homepage, you can't really decide where to look first! Well, Unless you want to listen to Bamboo's featured song, then you can directly look at the right side! That will only happen if you've been navigating the site a lot of times already that you're very familiar with it.

Anyways, here's a peek of Bamboo Official Site! I hope you'll love it just like me!

Dalagang Probinsyana

The song Probinsyana is one of Bamboo's single on their third album We Stand Alone Together. Probinsyana, just like the other songs in this album is also a revival. The original version of Probinsyana was first heard in 1985. And this year, it was given a different version by the hottest band in the country- Bamboo.

Here's the lyrics of Probinsyana and Bamboo's first live performance in Unang Hirit.

PROBINSYANA
Bamboo

ang probinsyana ay di basta-basta
mahirap bolahin, kailangan haranahin
ang kanyang lakad, mabibighani ka
di biro, babaeng probinsyana

mahirap amuhin ang probinsyana
pag napaibig, wala kang duda

'pag sa umaga pisngi namumula
pag nakasaya maaakit ka
ang kanyang lakad, mabibighani ka
di biro, babaeng probinsyana

mahirap amuhin ang probinsyana
pag napaibig, wala kang duda
probinsyana! probinsyana!

aking diwata saan ka pumunta
lumuwas ng Maynila dala ng pangarap niya
ang kanyang lakad mabibighani ka
nasaan na aking Maria Clara

mahirap amuhin ang probinsyana
pag napaibig, wala kang duda
probinsyana, probinsyana...

Killing in the Name

I stumble upon Bamboo's version of the song Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine. Since its was performed by Bamboo, I got interested and so here's the video and the lyrics of the song! :D

Killing in the Name
Bamboo

Killing in the name of!
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Huh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya (11 times)
But now you do what they told ya
Well now you do what they told ya

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites

Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses
Uggh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya (4 times)
And now you do what they told ya, now youre under control ( 7 times)
And now you do what they told ya!

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites
Come on!

(guitar solo: yeah! come on!)

Fuck you, I wont do what you tell me (8 times spoken becoming a shout by the 8th time)
Fuck you, I wont do what you tell me! (8 times, shouted)
Motherfucker!
Uggh!

Englishman in New York Ep.II

Before leaving after tonight's shift, I decided to check my other Yahoo IM. The one I saved here in my blogger account. Surprisingly, I got a number of off line messages from my colleagues at work. But one strikes me the most was from someone who was asking for another link for my previous blog entry about Bamboo's version of Englishman in New York. This someone's IM address was mucho31s ( i guess). Funny, but this someone addressed me as Sir instead of Ma'am... ahahahha...

It;s no big deal actually. I just wanna thank this someone (I don't wanna address him as mucho31s because it may not be the right IM address) coz he was able to inform me that there's something wrong with the link in entry.. :)

Hopefully, he could stumble upon my blog again to find this new link of my multiply account that I'll be giving. Here it is:

Englishman in New York

Englishman in New York was originally sang by Sting and its the song I'm so into right now. Here's Bamboo's version of this cool song. Listen here.

Englishman In New York
Bamboo

I don't drink coffee I take tea my dear
I like my toast done on one side
And you can hear it in my accent when I talk
I'm an Englishman in New York

See me walking down Fifth Avenue
A walking cane here at my side
I take it everywhere I walk
I'm an Englishman in New York

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

Modesty, propriety can lead to notoriety
You could end up as the only one
Gentleness, sobriety are rare in this society
At night a candle's brighter than the sun

Takes more than combat gear to make a man
Takes more than a license for a gun
Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can
A gentleman will walk but never run

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said
Then he's the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say

I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York
I'm an alien I'm a legal alien
I'm an Englishman in New York

Bamboo- the coverboy

I've been waiting for the PULP Magazine for the month of January! This is my first Pulp and I bought this because of a single reason. That Bamboo is on the cover and the band was being featured on it! As what the magazine said, Bamboo was indeed the hottest band in the country last year and is now on their way to conquer Asia with their repackaged album, Light. Peace. Love.

I was lucky enough to arrive on time because there were only three copies left on the shelf. Well, I know I was lucky because even though Kessen had the chance to ask for reservations for the magazine, she wasn't phoned by the store which simply means they forgot that she asked for it! Thank God! there were three left or else they'll be sorry!

Though there were not much of write-ups about the band, you will simply swoon by the fact that there were great photos that went along with it! The quartet's photos on the magazine makes every believer go wild! My friends and I were even too careful not to ruin it!

For more photos of Bamboo on PULP, click here.

BAMBOO during Dinagyang 2006

Today's the 26th of January and two days from now it's Dinagyang. I don't really feel good counting down the days. Aside from the fact that the tribe representing my Alma Mater isn't joining, the exact date of the
festival celebration represents one heck of good memories!

Saturday, 28th January 2006

Around 7:00 PM. Stayed at SM City and though we're not interested, we watched celebs at the carpark, bought a pair of earrings, and eat! We're just killing the time (kumbaga).

Around 8:30 PM. Maribeth and I left SM City to Sarabia!
And though its still early, the venue was half full (i guess)... We saw some schoolmates of ours in front and because we're older, we went in front with their help! At Sarabia, We saw Ric, Gamz, Cianle and some of his classmates.

Around 9 PM. Some of local bands performed as Front Acts! Aside from Kwatro Kantos, I can't remember the others...

11:30 PM. Everyone was really irritated! They've been shouting Globe instead of Smart and the emcee was likewise irritated! ahahahah... Moments later, Maribeth thought it was Bamboo she saw backstage! Sad to say It wasn't Bamboo, it was Nathan! mmm.. It wasn't that bad I guess. Nathan is still Nathan- THE bassist!

Whew! the long wait was over. Vic went to the stage to try his drums and that was it! Evervbody went hysterical! Shit! Shit! Shit! I just can't explain the feeling- God! it was overwhelming!

And that was it! I was taken to some place when the Band started their first song! The only thing I hate at that time was to see my neighbor flirting with Bamboo! She even didn't gave way for Bamboo to come near us! FLIRT!!! I hate her! If only I co
uld tell her husband! Geez! she just gave birth!!! Kapal!!!

Don't worry guys... I know. I know and I admit I'm JEALOUS! If you were on my shoes you'll understand why... on the other hand, I can't take it against her. If I were in here shoes I would also be flirting on my own way! LOL... But definitely I would give for Bamboo to come ne
ar his fans unlike her! duh!

Bamboo sang 10 of his songs. Some of which were ULAN, HALLELUJAH, ALPHA BETA OMEGA, NOYPI,MR.CLAY, F.U., and more! Here's some of the raw photos of Bamboo's performance:
